Eiichi Sawado is a Japanese musician, music theorist, and pianist, who's field of research includes contemporary experimental music of the 20th century, specifically focusing on Morton Feldman and Cornelius Cardew. This research is a continuation of his focus on compositional theory, which he studied under Hiroshi Yamaguchi. As a pianist he collaborated on groundbreaking albums such as Jaques Morelenbaum and Goro Ito's "Rendez-Vous In Tokyo". As a theorist he follows the lineage of his mentor Yamaguchi in his investigation of "By the method of the Paris Conservatory: strict counterpoint".

Akiko Nakayama
is a painter who depict a beauty of convey energy metamorphosis through several media such as installation, photos and performance. Combining the energy of movement and the vibrancy of colors, Akiko Nakayama brings pictures to life. Called “Alive Painting”, Akiko depicts the resonance between shapes and textures by using different types of liquids, each with a unique characteristic.

After a groundbreaking performance in 2019, Akiko Nakayama returns to MUTEK.JP, this time for the premiere of a new collaboration with pianist Eiichi Sawado. The fusion of Sawado’s acoustic music explorations and Nakayama’s organic paint-based visual art will make for an impactful counterpoint to the digital experiences.
