Christian Pomerleau’s Gridspace symbolizes an expanding multimedia entity in Montréal that combines Pomerleau’s electronic-music-scene past with the high-tech present. Gridspace’s visuals stem from non-narrative structures bonded by dark sci-fi themes and bright paranoramas, writ large by projection beams, motion graphics and video capture technology. In visual design, Gridspace has worked with Moment Factory, Cirque du Soleil and Stereo Nightclub (where he is also a resident VJ) on projects that transcend the mainstream and push visual and technical limits. As a VJ, he embraces the spontenaity of live performance, conceiving images attuned to a diversity of producers over the past decade, from Audion and Dubfire to Richie Hawtin and Sasha, and festivals including Les étés de la danse de Paris, Elektra, Piknic Electronik, Igloofest and MUTEK. At EM15, he taped into the sounds of Ricardo Villalobos with original, mood-enhancing graphics in deceptively-simple tones of black and white, red and blue.
