Montreal’s very own Eric San (aka Kid Koala) is set to make his long-awaited MUTEK debut. Classically trained on the piano, it wasn’t long before San got busy with his first pair of Technics 1200s. After a fortunate encounter with his sister’s record player the young San made his first scratch – the rest is history as they say. After signing to Coldcut’s Ninja Tune imprint, the first North American to do so, Koala’s turntable wizardry and unique performance style soon earned him a dream gig opening for hip hop royalty – the Beastie Boys. Kid Koala is a man of many talents, when he’s not ripping up dance floors the world over he finds time to pen his very own comic. The release of his acclaimed 2000 debut album Carpal Tunnel Syndrome was accompanied with a 32-page booklet of cartoons. In the intervening years Kid Koala has built around him a legion of fans with such classic albums as Some of My Best Friends are DJs (2003) and Your Mom’s Favorite DJ (2007) for his distinctive signature sound of light-hearted humor and jazz samples, spiced up with chopped samples, tasty beats and absorbing guitars.
