Pete Samples is a solo artist and a one-of-a-kind creative force. This multi-instrumentalist, who has limited musical training, experiments with melody, electronics as well as rhythm. Originally from Winnipeg, he moved to Montreal in 2004 following the released of his first album, An Unsent Letter, which meshes hip-hop with live instrumentation. After three years spent tweaking his style, Samples has just dropped his second album, Yours Makes Mine, a rousing cinematic experience that relies on a wall-of-sound approach, driven by vocals and piano and other more conventional instruments. Retaining his experimentation with ambient electronic sounds to fashion a dream-like world, Samples also folds in unorthodox instrumentation: toys, a Casio keyboard, DIY percussion and broken vinyl discs glued back together. The Pete Samples experience remains resolutely ethereal and gentle, fusing the hip-hop, electro and experimental genres.
