MUTEK is a non-profit organization dedicated to the diffusion, promotion, production, and development of emerging forms of digital creativity and electronic music. Its main activity is the annual presentation of the MUTEK Festival and its Professional Forum held in Montréal in August, while the rest of the year is led by various occasional activities. Driven by humanist values such as equity, equality, and inclusion, MUTEK is committed to supporting and promoting the diversity of creative expression in its industry.

Now its in it third consecutive year the MUTEK Market provides Canadian and international artists and industry professionals with an opportunity to connect with festivals, curator, promoters, and creative industry professionals from around the world. Fusing both physical and virtual activities the market is aimed at establishing old, and fostering new networks, at generating new collaborative business opportunities, and to develop MUTEK’s international network and leadership in the field of electronic music and digital creativity, reinforcing the festival’s role as a yearly international rendezvous for music professionals. As Market Assistant you will be working with the Head of Market and the Market Coordinator in organizing and implementing the physical and virtual market activities.

Attention will be given to employment equity in the hiring process to address gaps in the representation of groups considered as minorities, including women, non-binary people, Black, Indigenous, racialized minorities, and/or LGBTQIA2+ communities, and/or persons with disabilities.

Tasks and responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Market and the Market Coordinator in all tasks related to the implementation of the Market 2022 edition, including :
- Research, compile and update a list of relevant international buyers (previous participants and new opportunities) -- buyers’ profiles (festivals, events, cultural centers, radios etc.) to be confirmed with the Head of Virtual Market.
- Assist in contacting the targeted buyers and confirm their participation.
- Assist the confirmed buyers in their familiarization with the Swapcard platform, the creation of their profiles, and the setup of the 1to1 meetings.
- Assist/interact with the buyers on the Swapcard platform during the Market period.
- Assist with the Follow-Up process, f.ex, by setting up a feedback form for the buyers.
- Assist with contacting the performing artists and coordinating their participation in the Virtual Market incl. familiarization with the Swapcard platform
- Assist in coordinating the market activities incl. chat rooms, roundtables and networking sessions

Durant the event:
- Assist in the coordination of market activities incl. networking activities, cocktails, MUTEK Match etc.
- Assist in inviting in-person buyers and liaison with the hospitality team for arranging their trip and stay in Montreal
- Assist in informing invited in-person buyers of all relevant information concerning the festival activities and their expected participation (e.g. certain shows, networking activities, MUTEK Match etc.)
- Prepare thank-you letters with the manager after the 2022 edition.
- Submit a postmortem including recommendations for improvement of the Market process with regards to future editions

- Fluency in French and working knowledge in English
- At ease with the specific rhythm of a festival, working across different time zones and flexible to unexpected situations
- Autonomy, while having a collaborative team spirit
- Familiarity, strong interest or previous experience in the music industry, digital art or A/V performance
- Asset: Experience in the logistical tasks of organizing professional events in the music industry and/or digital arts sector

Conditions and duration
Start Date
: May 16th 2022 | (the employee needs to be located in Montréal; in the context of Covid-19 we aim for a mixed model of working from our office and from home)
: 10 weeks (end of the contract September 30th 2022)
: Part-time — flexible, with increased availability as the festival approaches (August 23–28, 2022)
