(taxes and fees included)Deena Abdelwahed is a Tunisian DJ and producer. Abdelwahed moved to France over five years ago and has solidified her position as an innovator in electronic music. As a DJ, Deena is known for giving Tunis some of its first tastes of Western genres like Chicago juke. She has since earned her stripes as an international selector, touring the global festival circuit and playing Boiler Room sets. As a producer, her approach is bold and experimental. In 2020, she released an EP titled Dhakar, which combines sonic influences from her home region with heavy rhythms and sampling from other local sources. As she intersects dance music with geopolitical motifs, the work is a testament to Deena’s ability to create a unique sound that transcends borders. In this Q&A moderated by creative producer Sarah Mackenzie, Abdelwahed discusses fusing Arabic references with club music and navigating the global music industry.
