Our tour continues at the Sonica festival in Glasgow, an 11-day biennial event produced by Cryptic, a key player in audiovisual arts since 1994. Launched in 2012 at Tramway, Glasgow's leading contemporary arts venue, Sonica has presented over 1,180 events across the city, attracting more than 206,000 people with a program that explores visual music, sonic, and digital arts. This year’s edition, from 19 to 29 September 2024, brings together over 100 artists from 19 countries, offering a wide range of live performances and installations across 16 venues in Glasgow.

In its mission to promote international collaboration, MUTEK presents works by Québec and Canadian artists at Sonica 2024, enhancing the reach of their practices and encouraging cross-cultural exchanges. This partnership reflects our commitment to connecting Québec’s creative community with a global audience, supporting both emerging and established talents on international platforms.

Martin Messier presents two works: 1 drop, 1000 years, a performance developed for INSCAPE: New Homeostasis which traces the millennia-long journey of a single drop of water through Earth's ocean currents, highlighting the invisible processes that shape our planet's climate.

At the same time, Messier presents Cycles, an installation showcased this summer as part of MUTEK's Village Numérique, which explores hidden patterns and repeating rhythms in the natural world, transforming these unseen dynamics into a multi-sensory experience.

France Jobin and Markus Heckmann perform Entanglement, an audiovisual work inspired by quantum mechanics that explores the phenomenon of quantum entanglement, where particles remain interconnected despite the distance between them. Through elaborate visual projections created with TouchDesigner and an evolving soundscape, the work merges scientific concepts with artistic expression.

Ida Toninato and Pierre-Luc Lecours present Homeostasis, another work created for INSCAPE in the summer of 2023. This audiovisual performance reflects on the concept of balance, drawing inspiration from the golden ratio. Through a dynamic dialogue between music and visuals, their work illustrates the interconnectedness of different artistic elements, blending sound and imagery in real time.

By collaborating with Sonica, MUTEK continues its mission to promote Québec and Canadian artists on the world stage, providing new opportunities for artistic innovation and cross-cultural dialogue. Supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des Arts de Montréal, The Québec Government Office in London, and MUTEK's 25th anniversary, this partnership exemplifies MUTEK's dedication to fostering global connections in digital and audiovisual arts, building bridges between local talent and international audiences.

After Glasgow, our journey continues in September with other European festivals, including Lunchmeat in Prague (CZ) and Bright Festival in Leipzig (DE). In October, we head to Latin America, with stops in Santiago, Buenos Aires, and Mexico City, where MUTEK continues to grow, notably celebrating the 20th anniversary of MUTEK Mexico.
