With her baritone saxophone and a visceral sensitivity to space, Ida Toninato shapes soundscapes where architecture becomes instrument. She composes within reverberant structures—cisterns, tanks, forgotten buildings—using resonance as raw material to stretch breath, deepen frequencies, and charge silence. Her album We Become Giants, recorded inside a water tank with 40 seconds of reverb, is a sonic statement of immersion and scale. Moving between contemporary composition, ambient music, and immersive practices like her VR piece Listening to the Walls, Toninato crafts works that engage both the body and the imagination. A JUNO and Opus nominee for her collaborations with violist Jennifer Thiessen and for L’Atlas des films de Giotto, she continues to forge a path where vulnerability, resonance, and power converge in expanded listening.
Pierre-Luc Lecours is a sound and visual artist whose work lives at the intersection of composition, electronic texture, and audiovisual storytelling. Balancing formal precision with sensory depth, his performances merge modular synthesis, acoustic instruments, and real-time visuals into immersive, emotionally charged experiences. Drawing from contemporary classical, electroacoustic, and experimental electronics, he builds a language that’s both cerebral and bodily. A recipient of awards from Exhibitronic, Destellos, and JTTP, his work has travelled widely—presented at Akousma, HYBRID, MUTEK (Montréal, Tokyo, Barcelona) and beyond. Whether solo or in collaboration—like with Ida Toninato on Inner Seas and Homeostasis—Lecours continues to explore how sound becomes form, memory, and movement within a shifting audiovisual terrain.
Ida Toninato & Pierre-Luc Lecours — Homeostasis
Live A/V | World Premiere
In Homeostasis, baritone sax and modular synth intertwine beneath a dome of shifting light and real-time visuals. Ida Toninato and Pierre-Luc Lecours sculpt a vibrant system where sound and image continually rebalance, echoing nature’s rhythms. Their performance pulses with intensity—an immersive meditation on coexistence, ecology, and equilibrium.
This project is supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts, in collaboration with the SAT and MUTEK. The creation of Homeostasis was made possible through a residency at the Maison de la culture Saint-Laurent, part of Montréal’s Maisons de la culture network. Produced by INSCAPE, executive producer Jay Bang.
