A Guy Called GeraldUK
A Guy Called Gerald is a pioneering figure in electronic dance music worldwide. Growing up in Moss Side, Manchester, he was immersed in soundsystem culture and the underground, Black, soul, funk and jazz fusion club scene across the North of England.
Initially starting his journey in contemporary dance, he soon found inspiration in the emerging sounds of New York electro-funk, Chicago Acid House, and eventually Detroit Techno. In the late 1980s, he achieved widespread recognition with his acid house anthem “Voodoo Ray.”
At 21, he co-founded the group 808 State, and with two tracks in the UK dance charts, found himself catapulted into the mainstream. He launched Juice Box Records in the early 1990’s as a refuge from a major label deal and released one of the first full length jungle albums, 28 Gun Bad Boy. He followed with a string of releases including Anything Can Happen and Black Secret Technology, solidifying his position as a key architect of jungle.
He has gone on to release on the esteemed !K7 Records, Perlon and Laboratory Instinct, continuously developing his own unique sound and establishing a lasting global legacy. Fiercely independent, he performs worldwide with his unique “Live In Session” style.
