Akousma + Audiotopie present Léa Boudreau and Nancy TobinCA/QC
Nancy Tobin is a sound artist and performing arts designer, currently pursuing her PhD at Université du Québec à Montréal. Tobin’s research focuses on non-traditional methods of musical creation and the use of unusual speakers that transform the sound qualities of her compositions; she places systems that auto-generate sounds at the heart of her performances and installations, built around audio feedback, electromagnetism and pulses.
Based in Montréal, sound artist Léa Boudreau focuses on the relationship between nature and technology and the DIY approach. Through electroacoustic music, she explores the hidden sound characteristics of second-hand objects. Her work has been recognized multiple times (namely by the Canadian Electroacoustic Community’s 2019 and 2020 Awards, the 2019 Marcelle Deschênes Award from Université de Montréal’s Music Department and SOCAN’s Hugh Le Caine Award in 2017), and her projects have been showcased around the globe.

Akousma + Audiotopie present Léa Boudreau and Nancy Tobin CA/QC — Interstices
A composition spanning three days, Interstices integrates random processes and probabilities favoring its autonomy and its renewal over time. Its sound elements are borrowed from the natural world and resonating bodies, imbuing the work with a truly organic character. The composition will be broadcast on Audiotopie’s custom-made ESSAIM system, consisting of eight autonomous speakers.
