Multi-instrumentalists, producers and accomplished composers, Mathieu Charbonneau and Pietro Amato have been working together for several years. Their collaboration began with the instrumental group Torngat and continued with Ferriswheel and indie group The Luyas, with whom Amato still plays today. The horn player, keyboardist and electronic entousiast is also a member of Bell Orchestre and occasionally accompanies Arcade Fire in the studio and on tour, not to mention his collaborations with Amon Tobin, Islands, Snailhouse, Plants and Animals and the achievement of his many albums. For his part, pianist, keyboardist and composer Mathieu Charbonneau is currently a member of the popular groups Avec Pas d'Casque, as well as Organ Mood. The Franco-Ontarian musician has also released two solo piano albums under his own name and several soundtracks for film and television. Together, the two versatile creators form the Charbonneau/Amato synth duo. Inspired by proto-electronic music from artists such as Harmonia, Neu! and Laurie Spiegel, the duo released the Synth Works Vol.1 album in 2018. The sequel, Synth Works Vol. 2, is scheduled for fall 2021.
Charbonneau/Amato are formed of a modular synth, a Farfisa, drum machines and mono synths. In their synthetic dialogues and rich electronic sketches, Charbonneau/Amato invoke spacious soundscapes and complex textures with ambient contours, bathed in elegant harmonic layers and wavering rhythms. The pair are world premiering a new live show with material from their first and upcoming effort. The concert is accompanied by live screenings by Montréal artist and filmmaker Joël Vaudreuil, also a member of Avec Pas d'Casque.
The versatile musicians Mathieu Charbonneau and Pietro Amato are both veterans of the Montréal music scene, whether it be with Avec Pas d'Casque, Organ Mood, Ferriswheel, The Luyas, Torngat and Bell Orchestra for the one and / or for the other.
