Under the moniker Evicshen, sound artist and instrument-maker Victoria Shen stretches the limits of sonic possibility and structure through electric physical performances.
Experimenting with modular synths, vinyl records, and self-made electronics acting as an extension of her person, she probes the tension between opposing forces: chaos and control, practicality and absurdity, studying the spatiality of sound and its relationship to the human body. Producing what she calls “chaotic sound,” she eschews musical convention in favour of extreme textures and gestural tones—signals are opposed, information fractures and skews, and traditionally embedded meaning is turned on its head.
Her DIY approach to music and production is prominent throughout her work, notably her debut EP, Hair Birth. Listenable via a copper coil embedded in its album cover, each unit is a distinct piece that recontextualizes and deconstructs materiality and mass production.

Using her body as a point of departure, Evicshen restructures sonic meaning through experimentation with self-made electronics and unconventional materials. Sound, form, and sense bend in her live corporeal explorations, inviting viewers to unpack and reinterpret their relationship with the material possibilities for creating sound.
