France Jobin is a Montréal-based audio artist and film composer whose practice sits at the intersection of sound art and quantum physics. Her work, often described as “sound sculpture,” relies on a minimalist aesthetic to explore complex sonic environments where the relationships between matter, space, time, and perception become central, with sound treated as a spatial, perceptual, and architectural material.

Working with both analog and digital processes, she creates immersive installations and performances that translate invisible phenomena into perceptual experiences, inspired both by the architecture of the site and by the fundamental structures of contemporary physics. Since 2008, quantum physics has been a central axis of her artistic research. Concepts such as thresholds, uncertainty, entanglement, and quantum fields directly influence her approach to composition, sound spatialization, and scenophony. Her music, characterized by restraint and precision, does not shy away from extremes: high and low frequencies, tensions between silence and amplitude, discontinuities, and emergences.

Markus Heckmann’s work blends the aesthetics of generative computer graphics with the physical properties of light, creating immersive visual experiences that exist beyond representation. For his media performances, Heckmann uses the innovative programming environment TouchDesigner to develop custom visual instruments, enabling live improvisation in dialogue with music. The resulting visual worlds are inventive and dynamic: colors, shapes, and motion construct imaginary spaces that he navigates and documents with remarkable precision and virtuosity, allowing the medium itself to unfold as a space of poetic exploration.

Film

France Jobin and Markus Heckmann’s Lueurs Quantiques translates the abstract principles of anti-matter—collisions, annihilations, instabilities, and recompositions—into a multisensory experience that invites audiences to cross the thresholds between scientific wonder and embodied experience. Inside the dome, loss of orientation, propagation of energy, and the invisible dance of particles are experienced from within, as visual elements vibrate, fragment, and recombine in resonance with sound.
