France Jobin & Markus HeckmannCA/QC + DE
Based in Montréal, France Jobin is a sound artist and composer whose work is rooted in a minimalist aesthetic she refers to as “sound sculpture.” Operating at the intersection of analog and digital, her compositions explore silence, dynamic range, and restraint to build intricate sonic environments that shift perception. Her releases have appeared on influential experimental labels such as LINE, Editions Mego, ROOM40, and ATAK. Deeply inspired by quantum physics since 2008—a focus that intensified during the pandemic—Jobin’s installations often respond to architectural spaces, creating immersive experiences in unconventional venues and international festivals. Through careful control of tonal extremes and frequency, her soundscapes challenge the listener’s attention and invite deep, focused listening. Her collaboration with Markus Heckmann on Entanglement reflects a shared fascination with scientific phenomena, translating abstract concepts into multisensory environments that blur the lines between sound, space, and perception.
Markus Heckmann is a visual artist and Technical Director at Derivative, the company behind TouchDesigner. Trained in media technology in Ilmenau and at Bauhaus University in Weimar, his work merges generative computer graphics with the physical properties of light. He designs real-time visual instruments for live performance, producing abstract, non-representational landscapes shaped by color, form, and motion. Heckmann has collaborated with artists like Carsten Nicolai and developed visual systems for large-scale kinetic installations such as WHITEvoid’s KineticLights. Under the alias Wüstenarchitekten, he also contributes visuals to techno events, where his audiovisual approach creates dreamlike, ever-evolving spaces. His artistic process unfolds in real time, emphasizing the ephemeral nature of performance. In collaboration with France Jobin, the project Entanglement represents a convergence of scientific inquiry and artistic exploration, transforming invisible processes into captivating visual and sonic experiences that challenge the boundaries of perception.
France Jobin & Markus Heckmann — Lueurs Quantiques
Live A/V | World Premiere
In Lueurs Quantiques, France Jobin and Markus Heckmann delve into the paradoxes of antimatter through modular sound, light, and haze. Collision-like sonic textures—dense, fragmented, and precise—merge with real-time visuals to create a quantum-inspired landscape. Shifting beams and shadows sculpt a fleeting architecture of energy and abstraction.
