Montréal-based saxophonist, vocalist, and producer Ida Toninato creates music where breath, resonance, and immersion converge. Known for her distinct relationship with reverberant spaces and her instinctive connection to sound, she builds deep connections with the architectures in which she performs. Her work seeks to blur the boundaries between instrument, voice, space, and body, transforming each performance into a unique listening experience.

After a career rooted in the contemporary and experimental scenes, she has embraced a more intuitive and personal artistic direction. Her debut album, Strangeness is Gratitude (Kohlenstoff Records, 2016), marked her arrival on the underground scene. Her second album, We Become Giants (Dragon’s Eye Recordings), was recorded inside a former water cistern and drew international attention for its unique approach to space and timbre.

A committed creative collaborator, she co-created The Space Between Us with Jennifer Thiessen, a work nominated for both the JUNO Awards and the Prix Opus. The duo later expanded their palette toward voice and electronics with Dream of Heat (2026), produced by Jason Sharp and recorded by Radwan Ghazi-Moumneh at Hotel2Tango. She also collaborates closely with Pierre-Luc Lecours. Together, they create audiovisual performances combining electronics, live instrumentation, and audio-reactive visuals, presented internationally through the MUTEK network.

Ida ToninatoHouse of Love
Live

Inhabited by the tender roars of a baritone saxophone, the intimacy of a soft voice, and the insistent resonance of electronic rhythms, Ida Toninato’s House of Love is a free-flowing ode to the dancefloor. Grounded in body, breath, and raw energy, she shapes a sonic material in constant transformation, where tension, density, and suspension gesture toward entrancement.
