Born in Seoul, South Korea, Jessica Cho’s venture into music began when her mother enrolled her in piano lessons. Now based in Toronto, Cho, as Korea Town Acid, experiments with modern hardware while keeping her classically-trained foundations intact, fusing classical sounds with contemporary textures in order to craft multi-faceted works that go beyond traditional club music. She further develops her unique sound by using both analog and digital polysynths, drum machines and samplers to create moody and unpredictable soundscapes.

Cho’s signature sound has garnered global attention over the past decade, leading her to perform both DJ and live hardware sets throughout Europe and North America. An alumna of the 2018 Red Bull Music Academy, she was notably selected to participate in a master class with Suzanne Ciani at the National Music Centre in 2019. And despite the lack of touring opportunities during the pandemic, Cho kept active through her monthly residency on New York’s The Lot Radio.

Korea Town Acid released her first full-length albums in 2021. The first, Metamorphosis, featured broad collaborations with the likes of DESIIRE, Pianwooo, PNSB, Dreamdave and L.J The Alien. Her second self-released record, Cosmos, was supported by the Canada Council For The Arts, and her Lo-fi, Electronica and DnB-laden tracks were featured on Benji B’s BBC Radio 1 show.

Returning to MUTEK for a second live appearance, Korea Town Acid will present Digital Detox, a unique and improvisational experience featuring the exclusive use of hardware without backing tracks, along with an impressive array of drum machines, samplers and modular synthesizers. The result will be a glitchy, hypnotic and genre-bending soundscape, ebbing and flowing in line with the eclectic artist’s mood.
