Mia Koden is a South Sudanese/British producer and DJ based in South London. Raised between Ghana and Nigeria, her early years were steeped in the sounds of her parents’ wide-ranging record collection, filled with influences from across the African continent and beyond. Marked by a pull toward sound system culture, her teenage years in the UK saw frequent pilgrimages to spaces where the low-end pulses of roots reggae, drum & bass and dubstep reverberated.
While studying in London, she acquired a pair of worn Technics 1210s, an unassuming starting point that would shape her path as both a selector and producer. Since then, she has steadily built a reputation for championing underground electronic music, guided by a deep, ever-growing record collection that spans continents and styles.
As one half of the acclaimed duo Sicaria Sound, Mia Koden became known for her forward-thinking approach to 140 BPM music. Her solo project carries that same energy and bass-driven intensity, while opening into new territories and rhythmic possibilities.
Her 2023 self-released debut EP Hot Take / I Did introduced this next chapter, followed by a release on Ilian Tape that further expanded her palette, blending 2-step, steppas dub, and other club mutations with precision and weight. Alongside productions, her mixes for platforms like Dekmantel, My Analog Journal, and Keep Hush highlight her instinctive approach to selection: groove-laced, bass-heavy, and full of unexpected turns.
