Tristan Perich's work is inspired by the aesthetic simplicity of math, physics and code. The WIRE describes his compositions as “an austere meeting of electronic and organic.”

His 2004 album 1-Bit Music, released on Cantaloupe Music, was the first album ever released as a microchip, programmed to synthesize his electronic composition live. His follow-up release, 1-Bit Symphony, is a hypnotic composition utilizing on and off electrical pulses to manifest data as sound. His work coupling 1-bit electronics with traditional forms in both music and visual art has been presented around the world, from Sonar and Ars Electronica to the Museum of Modern Art and bitforms gallery.

Through a boundless approach to music, collaborations with artists from different walks of life, and an array of innovative programming, James McVinnie has carved out a unique career as an organist and keyboard player.

A key advocate for contemporary music, he’s had major concerto and solo works written for him by the likes of Sam Adams, David Chalmin, Martin Creed, Bryce Dessner, Hildur Guðnadóttir, David Lang, Tom Jenkinson/Squarepusher, and more. He directs the James McVinnie Ensemble, a collective of virtuoso keyboardists dedicated to exploring work often preoccupied with political themes, and has released solo albums on Bedroom Community Records, Orange Mountain Music, Warp Records & Pentatone.

Live | Canadian premiere

Performing Infinity Gradient, Tristan Perich and James McVinnie locate the shared pulse of millenia-old instrumentation and early electronic memory. Drone-like hums from a traditional pipe organ dissolve into the glittering 1-bit symphony of 100 custom-built speakers, fluttering with the intemporal familiarity of binary waveform and the kaleidoscopic warmth of an epoch-defining instrument.
