Abulzooz^PS/QC

Abulzooz is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator based in Tiohtià:ke Montréal. A Palestinian artist in diaspora, he grew up across the Gulf, the Levant, and North Africa before immigrating to Canada. These experiences continue to shape his sense of belonging and inform his artistic inquiry.

Initially pursuing classical guitar, he shifted toward electronic music while studying at Berklee College of Music, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Production and Sound Design in 2013. His practice blends intricate sound design with acoustic instrumentation and improvisation, moving fluidly between folk, jazz, and experimental electronic forms. Alongside his artistic work, he has spent over a decade working in music education, audio engineering, and composition for film and advertising.

His recent work foregrounds political awareness and communal responsibility. In 2025, Abulzooz received professional development support from the Canada Council for the Arts for Sonic Resistance, a mentorship project centered on anti-colonial music creation. His latest release emerged as a grassroots fundraising effort in solidarity with families in Gaza, created as a means of processing frustration and helplessness through music.

In Infisal, Palestinian-Canadian artist Abulzooz narrates the fragmentation and regeneration of collective memory within the Palestinian diaspora. Field recordings, interviews, and snippets of folk melody unravel and reassemble in real time without resolve, cycling through repetition, collapse, renewal, and the persistent mutations and reinventions of culture in the face of barriers.
