As the Festival, which will take place from August 20 to 25, promises to be a memorable celebration of artistic innovation and electronic culture, the MUTEK evening at Aire Commune will bring together enthusiasts, artists, and visionaries to honor a rich legacy of experimentation and sound exploration.
SIM pushes the limits within the realm of Sound System Music, garnering recognition across the globe, while emphasizing crucial aspects of the Hardcore Continuum. Drawing inspiration from the theories of Dub and Dancehall sound by Lee 'Scratch' Perry, King Tubby, and Dave Kelly, as well as the innovation of Techno pioneers like Plastikman and Jeff Mills, SIM delves into the interplay between space, body, and sound.
In 2018, with the release of 'Pu$$ycat' featuring the Catalan duo Crimen Pasional, SIM made himself heard on a higher scale. Since then, the Montreal-based producer has focused on collaboration to expand his body of work, working with artists such as Brodinski, Sinjin Hawke, Madam X, Doctor Jeep, DJ Plead, Toumba, and Siu Mata amongst others.
His recent releases include the 'Sumergir' EP with Sueuga on Sacrilejio Records, 'Sulum EP' on the Berlin-based label SPE:C, 'SINNAZ EP' with NAP on ISLA Records, and 'Terminate EP' on the iconic London label Nervous Horizon.
The world of Ultima Esuna is an enchanting blend of lush, dreamlike productions encompassing realms of dembow, regular percussion, captivating beats, Latin elements, and soft house. Drawing from her rich Latin American heritage, her style harmoniously weaves together traditional danzón, folklore, and reggaeton, resulting in a captivating and unique musical tapestry.
With an unwavering commitment to her art, Ultima Esuna pays meticulous attention to every aspect of the creative process. From the inception of a composition, she fully immerses herself, creating evocative environments that invite listeners to explore their imagination, traversing realms of tranquility and sensuality. Her music effortlessly captures the essence of melancholy, transforming it into a profound sense of growth and evolution.
Ultima is part of the esteemed trio ALTA FAMILIA, alongside NAP and SIM, showcasing the strength of their collective artistic vision. Additionally, she anticipates the release of her first vinyl, a collaboration with Michael Red titled "ORO AZUL."
DJ, record store owner, programmer at MUTEK, and co-founder of the labels Musique Risquée and Copier/Coller, Vincent Lemieux is a passionate music enthusiast.
Known for his all-encompassing involvement in Montreal's electronic music scene, Vincent Lemieux has also been producing music for over 15 years. With a few remixes, two releases on CCCLTD.CA, his first EP on the Russian label Studio Club, several releases under the name Flabbergast (a duo with Guillaume Coutu-Dumont), as well as his project Wetsuit (a duo with Ohm Hourani), his catalog is slowly expanding.
In his role as boss, A&R, and jack-of-all-trades for the label Musique Risquée, which he founded with Marc Leclair (Akufen) in 2003, and Copier/Coller with Guillaume Coutu-Dumont, which started in 2023, he has always showcased local talent.
