ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS!JP
Led by Japanese programmer, artist, and musician Ei Wada, ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS! fashions curbside rescues into playable electronic instruments both nostalgic and futuristic. Analog relics like CRT TVs, electric fans, and barcode scanners form the basis of their adventurous orchestral performances, capable of emitting the playful electroclash frequencies the group is known for.
Born from an early encounter with reel-to-reel recorders, whose strange emanations Wada perceived as voices from the past, the project rethinks the lifecycle of technology, folklorizing discarded devices into vessels through which memory can speak.
With a sense that a fantastical world lies just beyond our conventional understanding of technological obsolescence, the project channels the sounds of Wada’s early years: the metallic scintillations of Balinese gamelan, the enrapturing distortion of The Velvet Underground, all powered by a 100-person strong network of engineers, designers, and musicians.
Rather than objects consigned to the scrap pile, ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS! reimagines the machines of the past as mechanisms that can shape history for years to come.

Live A/V
Working with salvaged appliances turned DIY instruments, Japanese music collective ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS! playfully reimagines the potential of live instrumentation. Buzzing drones, erratic melodies, and pulsing textures echo bygone eras in their electromagnetic performances, extractions of the folkloric memory embedded in the apparatus of everyday life.
