London-based Japanese vocal performer Hatis Noit's accomplished range is astonishingly self-taught, inspired by everything from Gagaku (Japanese classical music) and operatic styles, Bulgarian and Gregorian chanting, to avant-garde and pop vocalists.
She first realized her calling at the age of 16 during a trek in Nepal to Buddha's birthplace, while staying at a women’s temple in Lumbini. On a morning walk, she hears faint singing, only to discover on further investigation that a female monk was singing Buddhist chants by herself. The sound moved Hatis Noit so intensely, she was instantly aware of the visceral power of the human voice; a primal and instinctive instrument that connects us to the very essence of humanity, nature and our universe.
In 2018, she released her first enigmatic EP, Illogical Dance, on Erased Tapes. The arresting record features Björk-collaborators Matmos and creates unique song-worlds with transcendent vocal interpretations that at once deconstruct and recombine Western classical music, Japanese folk and nature's own ambience atmosphere.

Yuma Kishi is an acclaimed Japanese contemporary artist using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create data-driven digital works and sculptures. Exhibited widely in Japan, his works have been featured by major brands such as Nike and publications such as Vogue. Borrowing motifs and symbols from the canons of both Western and Asian art history, his paintings distort our perceptions of the history of aesthetics. Using AI technology, his works evoke a sense of momentary dislocation in the viewer’s awareness of the self, creating a liminal space in between the here and now.

Hatis Noit presents the Canadian live debut performance of her much applauded album Aura. The name “Hatis Noit” itself is taken from Japanese folklore, meaning the stem of the lotus flower. The lotus represents the living world, while its root represents the spirit world, therefore Hatis Noit is what connects the two. For the artist, music represents the same netherworld with its ability to move and transport us to the other side; the past, a memory, our subconscious. The haunting tones of Aura invites the audience into these stirring, nostalgic soundscapes.
