An adventurous free-form house producer for almost 15 years now, Leon Louder has kept an unassuming profile, releasing music that seeks a place where house and live electronic improvisation intersect. Vertigo Inc. sees him using customized machines to create an unexpected, unpredictable and unique sound palette that delivers its own sonic and narrative logic, populated by percussive oddities and eccentric melodies.
A musician, sound designer and at one time an apprentice pipe organ builder, Leon Louder has been making house records since 2003, often relying on his own labels (Melted Dubs and Unfulfillment) to release. For their nods to soul, disco, Chicago house and rhythmic invention, his first issues garnered interest from key players like Fred Everything and a remix from Mark Farina. His discography reveals a particular enthusiasm for sampling: replete with soulful vocals and horns merging with bossa nova beats, acoustic guitar, gamelan sounds and piano licks, which also give way to darker synthesized tones and even break beats. LL’s newest offerings as Vertigo Inc., including two recent self-released 12”s, see him moving into deeper thickets of almost tropical sounding chime and quirky groove.
