Stream On, a new project to support our artistic community

STREAM ON 900 X670 en

Following the country's shutdown due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, MUTEK submitted a project to the Canada Council for the Arts called Stream On, focused on testing new models for the digital circulation of the works of 50 Canadian artists that are part of our community. It involves several venues, event organizers and amplifying partners such as media and cultural organizations.

The last part of the project consists in selecting and publishing 20 unreleased sets as part of MUTEK Replay from artists that have participated in previous editions of MUTEK. The artists are paid for this release and our intent is to improve visibility, augment the circulation of their work in the digital realm and generate revenue in a time when their income streams have been reduced or put on hold.

You can support the artists by listening to their sets, reposting our platform and inviting your friends, and most importantly: consider making a donation that will provide them an extra revenue since the total amount will be equally split between the 20 participants.

Sonication at the Phi Centre | Pierre Kwenders

Friday, August 14th, 8:30pm (online concert)

As part of DESTINATION: PHI,Sonication au Centre PHI is a hybrid experience, halfway between a film set and a festive happening. The performances played on the roof are transcribed on PHI Centre’s screens.
In order to quench the thirst for rhythmic experiences of music lovers, curious minds and fans of featured artists, these original performances are featured in a 12-episode, 30-45 minute web series broadcast every Wednesday from July 22 to October 7. The screening starts at 8:30 pm and the broadcast ends 48 hours after the event begins. Free tickets are available until 1 hour before the end of the broadcast.

Pierre Kwenders
Pierre Kwenders fluidly defuses the boundaries between genres, countries and cultures in his inventive approach to Afro sounds, combining Western and African styles in polymorphic grooves enriched by passionate vocals. Born in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, under the name of José Louis Modabi, Pierre Kwenders (the name of his grandfather, which he bears in his homage) sings and rappes in Lingala, French, English, Tshiluba and Kikongo, drawing on the lyrical and aesthetic specificities of each language to generate maximum emotional impact.
