The Wilding AI collective presents FERAL FREQUENCIES, a collective composition developed during a two-week residency at the Université de Montréal’s Laboratoire formes · ondes. This piece marks the culmination of two years of experimentation and research-creation exploring the use of artificial intelligence tools for sound spatialization.
The composition is structured around four central themes explored by the collective: Emotional Sovereignty, Data That Matters, The Algorithmic Shape of Stories and Breaking Machines / Making Kin.
Channeled through the Satosphere’s 93 speakers, this creation offers a cutting-edge sonic experience at the intersection of scenophony — one of the SAT’s research expertise — and emerging artificial intelligence technologies.
Ticket holders for the ArtIA Symposium will receive a promo code for a free ticket to attend FERAL FREQUENCIES. Festival and/or Forum MUTEK pass and passport holders get 20% off with the code WILDINGMUTEK20.
What is Wilding AI?
Wilding AI is a nomadic, polymorphous research-creation laboratory that challenges the domestication of artificial intelligence to foster creative expression. The collective explores poetic, experimental and hijacked (mis-)uses of generative algorithms, particularly in the field of spatial audio, in order to explore new forms of human-machine collaboration.
The collective is composed of :
- Alexandre Saunier, Artist and Professor in the Audiovisual Department, LUCA School of Arts, KU Leuven
- Beth Coleman, Artist and researcher, professor of “Data & Cities” at the University of Toronto.
- Daniela Huerta, Multimedia artist, researcher and sound therapist.
- Debashis Sinha, Assistant Professor of Design and Production, Toronto Metropolitan University.
- Gadi Sassoon, Composer of contemporary and classical electronic music and transmedia artist.
- Heu Hsu, Sound artist and researcher
- Maurice Jones, Artist, curator and principal researcher for ArtIA at SAT
- Nao Tokui, Artist, DJ and researcher, founder of the Neutone company
- Pía Baltazar, Intermedia composer, indisciplinary researcher and directress of arts-sciences development, SAT
- Portrait XO, Independent researcher and interdisciplinary artist
- Sahar Homami, Artist, audiovisual programmer, calligrapher and independent researcher
- Tegan Maharaj, Assistant Professor in Machine Learning, HEC Montréal, Department of Decision Sciences, MILA
With a focus on public engagement, Wilding AI has conducted several research-creation residencies and open presentations at renowned digital arts spaces, including MUTEK Montreal and SAT, MUTEK Mexico, MONOM Studios as part of the CTM Festival in Berlin, and 4DSOUND at the FIBER Festival in Amsterdam.
The Wilding AI project is supported by the Laboratoire formes – ondes of Université de Montréal, Concordia University, MONOM Studios, 4DSOUND, and Neutone Inc.
