Avatar-MUTEK Creation and Dissemination Residency

Avatar and MUTEK join forces to launch their call for applications for the Avatar-MUTEK 2023 Creation and Dissemination Residency.

This call for applications is open to artists of all origins, residing in Canada. Only solo artists and duos will be considered. The selected artist or duo will be hosted in residence at Avatar, in Quebec City, for the creation of a performative sound art piece. The work must have yet to be realized, or be in progress, or be in the process of being finalized.
Avatar and MUTEK are interested in receiving proposals for projects involving experimental sound practices, such as the exploration of rerouting or inventing instruments, modular synthesis, circuit bending or the development of software and electronic interface programming. This residency includes the presentation of the performative work during the 24th edition of MUTEK festival, which will take place from August 22 to 27 in Montréal.

Deadline: February 28th, 2023

Residency requirements offered by Avatar:

• Production fee: $2,200.
• Residency period: July 31 to August 25, 2023.
• Location of residency: Avatar, Medusa (Québec).
• Lodging and per diem for artists from outside Québec City.
• Transportation covered up to $1,000.
• Technical support: 30 hours (before and during the residency).
• Access to Avatar’s studios and equipment.
  

Distribution conditions offered by MUTEK:

MUTEK offers optimal distribution conditions for artists. The exact location and date of the performance will be determined by the programming team based on the work created. MUTEK takes place in Montreal from August 22nd to 27, 2023.
The artist will be paid according to the festival’s fee system.

Transportation and lodging are covered for artists from outside of Montréal (the duration of which will depend on the date of the performance).
Each artist will receive a professional accreditation for MUTEK Forum.

Call for Proposals

Interested artists are invited to fill out the form, providing the following elements:

• a bio and CV (4 pages max.),
• a project description (1200 words max.),
• examples of previous work (YouTube, Vimeo, web, jpeg or pdf files attached),
• documentation and/or sketch of the proposed project (YouTube, Vimeo, web links, jpeg or pdf files attached)
