Avatar-MUTEK Creation and Dissemination Residency

Avatar and MUTEK are joining forces to launch their call for applications for the Avatar-MUTEK Creation and Dissemination Residency 2025.

This call is open to artists of all backgrounds residing in Canada. Only solo artists and duos will be considered. The selected artist or duo will be hosted in residency at Avatar in Quebec City to create a sound art piece of a performative nature. The piece can be in the conceptual, production, or final stages.
Avatar and MUTEK are looking for project proposals that involve experimental sound practices such as instrument repurposing or invention, modular synthesis, circuit bending, or software and electronic interface programming.

This residency includes a performance of the work at the 26th edition of the MUTEK festival, taking place from 20 to 24 August 2025 in Montreal.

Deadline: 24 November 2024

Residency conditions offered by Avatar:

• Production fee: $2,500.
• Residency period: 27 July to 21 August 2025.
• Residency location: Avatar, Méduse (Quebec City).
• Accommodation and per diem for artists from outside Quebec City.
• Transport covered up to $200.
• Technical support: 30 hours (before and during residency).
• Access to Avatar's studios and equipment.
  

Presentation conditions offered by MUTEK:

MUTEK provides optimal conditions for artists' presentations. The venue and exact date of the performance will be determined (22, 23, or 24 August) by the programming team based on the work created. MUTEK will take place in Montreal from 20 to 24 August 2025.

The artist will receive presentation fees as per festival guidelines. Transport and accommodation are covered for artists from outside Montreal (duration based on performance date). Each artist receives professional accreditation for MUTEK Forum.

Call for applications

Interested artists are invited to complete the form, providing the following items:

• a biography and CV (max. 4 pages),
• a project description (max. 1,200 words) or a short explanatory video (max. 4 mins),
• your production timeline,
• examples of past work (YouTube, Vimeo, web links, attached jpeg or pdf files),
• documentation and/or outline of the proposed project (YouTube, Vimeo, web links, attached jpeg or pdf files),
• your technical needs for the residency and for the presentation.
