Marco Polo Gutierrez, aka Siete Catorce, is a rare artist that can truly claim to be doing something unique. His fusion of Mexican traditional rhythms and contemporary dance tropes is urgent and exciting, and his releases on NAAFI, Enchufada and Cocobass are way too underrated. We met up with Gutierrez at this year’s MUTEK Montreal, where he managed to perform a number of sets, each showcasing his innovative style and keeping the dancefloor moving. For his live performance, he avoids noodling and improvisation in favor of playing new material and constructing a solid narrative – it’s a decision that pays off.
