Village Numérique
Since its inception, MUTEK has explored different ways of presenting digital creation beyond indoor performances, notably through interventions in public space and installation-based formats. This approach has taken shape at various moments throughout its history, before gaining renewed momentum in 2024 with the launch of the Village Numérique.
Presented for a second consecutive year, the Village Numérique unfolded from August 14 to 28, 2025, in the Quartier des spectacles. Free and open to all audiences, it offered a pathway of digital and interactive installations spread across several indoor and outdoor locations in downtown Montréal. The event was co-presented with Xn Québec, a key partner in the project.
The 2025 edition brought together 28 installations and artistic interventions by 48 artists, primarily based in Montréal, exploring practices related to interactivity, audiovisual creation, and extended reality. Attendance increased significantly compared to the previous year, confirming public interest in this format as a complement to the Festival and the Forum.
Conceived as a distinct event closely connected to MUTEK’s ecosystem, the Village Numérique contributes to strengthening the presence of digital creation in public space and positioning Montréal as a major hub in this field.
The 2025 edition of MUTEK Montréal reflects the continuity and coherence of the Festival’s artistic vision. By bringing together performances, installations, and professional encounters, MUTEK continues its work of fostering dialogue between digital practices and electronic music, while strengthening its ties with local and international audiences and communities.
