A Ninth Edition for MUTEK Tokyo
MUTEK Tokyo returns for its ninth edition from 22 to 24 November 2024. Spanning three days, the event takes place in two iconic venues: Spotify O-EAST and WOMB, right in the heart of Tokyo.
True to its mission of promoting innovation in electronic music and digital art, this edition offers a diverse and rich programme exploring the interactions between technology and sound creation.
The programme this year highlights over 25 artists, including Caterina Barbieri and the extreme art project VMO a.k.a Violent Magic Orchestra, as well as performances previously showcased in Montreal, such as Canadian artist Kara-Lis Coverdale, Grand River, and collaborations like Sapphire Slows with Quebec-based visual artist Myriam Boucher or Meuko! Meuko! & NONEYE.
This edition also shines a spotlight on local talents with performances by renowned Tokyo-based producer and DJ Risa Taniguchi, collaborating with H2KGRAPHICS. Composer Hiroshi Watanabe, also known as Kaito, presents a performance with Atsushi Kobayashi, blending electronic music with dynamic visuals.
Vibraphonist and composer Masayoshi Fujita presents his new creation Migratory, blending contemporary music with jazz influences. These artists, alongside rising local figures like Makoto Inoue and scuy_v0id, embody the vibrancy and diversity of the Japanese art scene.
In addition to musical performances, MUTEK Tokyo hosts conferences and the ETERNAL Art Space exhibition at Shibuya Hikarie Hall B. This immersive exhibition features bold installations, including works by Ryoichi Kurokawa and the collective SPIME.IM, offering an opportunity to explore new perspectives on the relationship between art, technology, and perception. Special evenings will be held at WOMB club, showcasing artists such as Tasha and Maher Daniel.
