A quarter of a century of exploring and elevating the expertise in live electronic music and digital creation has shaped our identity since our inception in 2000. These 25 years have made MUTEK one of the most influential festivals in the world for digital creativity. From the launch of the 2024 campaign, we sensed a tangible excitement from the public that never waned and crystallized at the beginning of the Festival week into a contagious energy that permeated the 25th edition of MUTEK.
Furthermore, the Village Numérique, a new initiative of digital installation tours deployed in the Quartier des spectacles, launched prior to the festival and continuing a few days after, added an unprecedented backdrop that contributed to the eventful, celebratory, and unifying aspect of this 2024 edition.
With this 25th edition, MUTEK has solidified its position as a major festival in Montreal, Quebec, and more broadly in North America. With 87 performances by 142 artists organized into 19 programs, across 4 series and 2 special events, the festival attracted more than 62,000 festivalgoers over 6 days.

Special Event | ENO - Performative Documentary
A special screening-performance of the documentary ENO was organized on August 22 at Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts. This project by renowned filmmaker Gary Hustwit (Helvetica, Rams) uses revolutionary technology to explore the work and ideas of Brian Eno. Known for co-founding Roxy Music, pioneering ambient music, and producing artists such as David Bowie, U2, Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, and many others, Eno has also released over forty solo and collaborative albums. Hustwit and creative technologist Brendan Dawes developed custom generative software to assemble the scenes, using Hustwit's original interviews with Eno, vast archives of unseen footage, and an original soundtrack created by the musician himself. Each screening of ENO is unique, presenting different scenes, music, and order, and is intended to be experienced live. The generative and infinitely iterative nature of ENO resonates poetically with Eno's personal creative practice, his methods of using technology to compose music, and his endless exploration of the mercurial essence of creativity.
Gary Hustwit created a unique live film edit on stage, and the version shown at MUTEK will never be presented identically. The screening was followed by a Q&A session between Gary Hustwit and Sandra Rodriguez.
The event received widespread media coverage (Radio Canada, Fisheye Immersif, Canal Auditif, Crack Magazine, XRMust), and over 1000 tickets were sold. Théâtre Maisonneuve was sold out.
