A figure in Mexico City’s vast electronic underground, White Visitation crafts a dissonant and subdued techno, full of deftly repeated rhythms and riffs set to mesmerize. His focused style hooks skewed acoustic samples and high hats into a devouring pulse of heavy bass.

A bass guitarist in rock and punk bands as a teenager, Guerrero buried himself in electronic music, Ableton and samples after high school, finding his focus in techno as a producer and DJ. In the last few years his sound has morphed from deep abstract soundtracks into melodic tracks for darkened clubs. The steady vibrations on his releases for Opal Tapes and Styles Upon Styles echo with sustained synth chords and vocals, even a softly twanging guitar, leading up to his dive into solid, syncopated beats thawed by reverberating melody on LIES-XMAS-03. A 2015 L.I.E.S. podcast reveals a 50-minute set of original material: quickening broken beat rhythms and vocals that loudly emerge and then dive right back into a mix that’s half party, half melancholy respite.

As a DJ, White Visitation is known in Mexico City as a no-nonsense late-night techno selector, recently playing a set for Boiler Room Mexico City, contributing mixes to i-D magazine and The Room Sessions, and starting his own party called No Sleep. In Montréal as a representative of MUTEK Mexico, Guerrero brings a new live set to the subterranean depths of the MAC on Saturday night.
