MUTEKLIVE129 - Room Band
Room Band (CA)
Friday June 3, 2016 - Outdoor Stage
Mastered by Pheek.
WHO: Montréalers Matthew Salaciak (also M. Salaciak and Variant) and Adam Feingold (Ex-Terrestrial)
STYLE: Analog electronics, ancient riddims
MORE: They also run Montréal-based Temple Records with Richard Wegner and Max Segal
Pairing saturated analog electronics with ancient riddims, Room Band emphasize freedom and improvisation in their sets, allowing for the expression of their subconscious frequencies. Worldly riffs bend and tribal rhythms intertwine with alien stabs of synth and ambient pads of texture to create a vague geography of sounds that conjure imprecise "echo-systems."
Part of the deep pool of techno-committed collectives, events and labels operating in Montréal, Salaciak and Feingold also help operate Temple Records, which counts three 12” releases in their year-old catalogue. Both producers established their own independent identities before launching Room Band: Salaciak has released music with Max Segal as Variant (the first release on Temple) and as M. Salaciak with Demonstration Synthesis on Entr'acte; Feingold has put out material on Temple, Apron and 1080p, both as Adam Feingold and Ex-Terrestrial.
Salaciak and Feingold say Room Band exists as much as a revolving door as an open window, or an untethered sphere floating in the ether – all was revealed in a live set outdoors at the Parterre, marking Salaciak and Feingold’s third performance together as the enigmatic duo.
