Sculpture (UK)
Wednesday August 23, 2017 - Société des Arts Technologiques (SAT)
Mastered by Pheek
Who: UK-based experimental A/V duo of musician Dan Hayhurst and New Zealand-bred animator Reuben Sutherland
Style: Tape-saturated, psychedelic, technoid soundtracks for zoetropic visions
Labels: Dekorder, Kaleidoscope, Digitalis Recordings
Latest: Form Foam (2016), Zyprazol (2016), Sculpture (2016)
More: They have issued a series of more than 100 original zoetropic GIF animations on line this past year
Employing a blend of cutting-edge digital and archaic, often lo-fi analogue technologies, Sculpture’s arsenal includes reel-to-reels, Walkman cassette players and a custom zoetrope-like A/V set-up based on hacked vinyl turntables. Sculpture is visually ingenious, hallucinatory, dense and defined by magnetic, physical tape manipulation, found sounds, and reverb and delay for miles.
