MUTEKLIVE: Carmen Jaci on Rinse FR

For its residency on Rinse FR, MUTEK presents the live performance of Canadian artist Carmen Jaci, recorded during the 24th edition of the festival in Montreal last August.

Carmen Jaci's performance explores the impact of technology on our identities through the visualization of her personal data collected over the years. This eclectic and whimsical musical composition, teetering on the edge of the surreal, had its Canadian premiere at the MUTEK festival on August 23, 2023. Originally, it is a performance that combines sound with visual elements with artist Matthew Schoen.

Canadian producer and composer based in the Netherlands, Carmen Jaci creates fantastical worlds where sounds characteristic of childhood intertwine with those of popular music and symphonic compositions. Exploiting the contrasts between organic and electronic elements, she offers hybrid blends where acoustic instruments, synthesizers, and vocal recordings converge. Her recent projects draw inspiration from studio production techniques and the codes inherent to dance music, which the artist deconstructs, giving free rein to her imagination.
