MUTEK LIVE of the week : 330 - 332
Every year, during the festival, we record the performances to let you relive those unique moments shared on the dance floor. This week, new sound experiences unveil light shows with Hatis Noit & Yuma Kishi, Randy’s Calling et Rich Aucoin.
Hatis Noit & Yuma Kishi
The name “Hatis Noit” itself is taken from Japanese folklore, meaning the stem of the lotus flower. The lotus represents the living world, while its root represents the spirit world, therefore Hatis Noit is what connects the two. For the artist, music represents the same netherworld with its ability to move and transport us to the other side; the past, a memory, our subconscious. The haunting tones of Aura invites the audience into these stirring, nostalgic soundscapes.
Randy's Calling
Bringing together artists Simone Provencher, Dana Wiesbrock, and Scott Warren, Randy’s Calling is an ephemeral installation and performance. The artists were provided with access to a large quantity of Randy’s revenge pedals; all of which can’t be sold as they are exceptionally loud. Each pedal comprises an oscillator and a voltage-controlled filter, equivalent to rudimentary synthesizers. When connected together, they produce intricate modulations and impressive soundscapes.
Rich Aucoin
Rich Aucoin is known for his ever-evolving, interactive and community-based multimedia performances. For this world premiere of Synthetic, the set will be constructed and performed around synchronized yet abstract imagery, and supported by a light show. The performance will cover the first two seasons of Synthetic, a sumptuous journey throughout synth history, blending Aucoin’s melodic sensibilities with textured experimentations, regardless of genre.
