Second edition of Village Numérique: Québec's digital creativity in the spotlight from August 14 to 28

Following its resounding success with audiences and participants last year, the Village Numérique returns to the Quartier des Spectacles from August 14 to 28, 2025. With even more diverse programming, the event brings together a series of digital art installations, participatory workshops, and industry-focused activities. This year, MUTEK joins forces with Xn Québec to co-present this free public event, helping position Montréal as an international hub of digital creativity.

A reimagined journey through the Quartier des Spectacles
Every evening from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., iconic and hidden locations in the Quartier des Spectacles are transformed. UQAM’s Cœur des sciences comes alive with interactive installations. Just a few steps away, the Parterre becomes an interactive playground, while the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT], offers a unique glimpse into the world of digital creation.
The nighttime circuit forges powerful connections between technology, urban space, and creativity, encouraging the public to rediscover Montréal from a new perspective. Through architectural projections, mapping, interactive displays, and AI-generated photography, the event offers an eclectic, accessible, and engaging experience.
“At the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles, the Village Numérique circuit will showcase Montréal’s vibrant creativity and offer international exposure to local talent. This initiative democratizes digital art for the general public and establishes Montréal as a key destination in this field,” says Christine Fréchette, Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy, Minister Responsible for Regional Economic Development, and Minister Responsible for the Metropolis and the Montréal Region.
A program at the crossroads of art and innovation
The 2025 program highlights the diversity of media and approaches explored by cutting-edge artists and studios. “Village Numérique is a showcase for Québec's digital creativity,” says Mikaël Frascadore, Executive Producer of the Village Numérique. “It creates a space where local artists and studios can shine, meet their peers, and project themselves onto the international stage.” Between premieres and internationally acclaimed works, audiences will discover a rich variety of formats: interactive installations, interactive clothing, generative creations, and more.

Among the flagship projects is In camera by Ying Gao: an interactive garment that regains its material presence in space, countering the flatness of screens and fashion magazines. Another standout piece comes from studio Iregular, a member of Xn Québec, with Nest: Colony, an immersive installation inspired by nature and the defense mechanisms of insect colonies. Centered on sound, the work redefines how audiences typically engage with interactive art.
In addition to the local program, we are proud to present several international installations thanks to prestigious partnerships. Taiwanese studio Dimension Plus unveils VS AI Street Fighting, presented for the first time in Montréal by the Taipei Cultural Center in New York. This playful installation takes the form of a street-fighting video game powered by the generative AI Midjourney. Beneath the surface lies a reflection on creativity in the age of artificial intelligence: are these creations purely mechanical and devoid of meaning, or do they reveal a hybrid form of creativity born from the encounter between machines and our complex human minds?
In the Parterre windows, our partner Ubisoft presents Photomode: Framing the Game, an exhibition of virtual photographs captured within video game worlds. Using photomode, players become photographers in Ubisoft’s virtual environments, turning gameplay into a rich space for visual creation, where aesthetics, storytelling and exploration converge.
The full program will be unveiled on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT], during the pre-launch party for the MUTEK Festival. It will include additional artists and studios for the tour, the opening of Village Numérique Espace Innovation (in collaboration with Hexagram), details about the cultural mediation program, and a calendar of industry events during MUTEK Forum.
